Maria Olivita Macalolooy White Downs practicing as Levy Downs is a licensed marriage and family therapist in the state of California. She earned her Master’s in Counseling Psychology with a specialization in Holistic Studies from John F. Kennedy University. She has been working in the field of mental health since 2001 and has worked in several treatment settings ranging from nonprofit agencies to an inpatient hospital. Much of her career has been focused in working with Stanford Children’s Hospital as a milieu counselor and subsequently parent educator. Levy ran a number of patient groups such as media literacy, relapse prevention, communication skills, psycho-education about eating disorders and the side effects of malnutrition, and others. She also facilitated the parent support group there since 2005 and has had extensive education and experience working with families of patients with eating disorders. In 2015, she created her own private practice working with clients of various ethnic backgrounds, ages, and presentations including: mood disorders, trauma addiction and eating disorders.
Her theoretical orientation is Psychodynamic, and she draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Family Based Therapy (also known as the Maudsley Method), Acceptance Commitment Therapy and SoulCollage®. As a clinician, Levy is committed to helping clients identify their goals to improve their lives, heal from painful past experiences and move forward in the direction of their goals. Her style can best be described as relational, insight-oriented, client-centered, compassionate and direct.
